Folksam

Folksam is one of the largest insurance companies in Sweden. It is a mutual company owned by the
insurance policy holders. Folksam’s vision is that our customers must feel secure in a sustainable
world. Folksam has a long tradition of sustainability work that includes for example the environment
and climate, traffic safety and sports injuries.

Since the end of the 1970s, Folksam has a department conducting road traffic safety research with
the purpose to produce new knowledge aimed to save lives and prevent personal injuries. Our
researchers carry out long-term influence work primarily in traffic safety, but which also includes
environmental and health aspects, mainly in the field of road transport and sports injuries.

With our research, we contribute to the Swedish “Vision Zero” - a road transport system free from
long-term suffering in the form of personal injuries leading to death or permanent medical
impairment. Highlighting differences in personal injury and accident risks for different genders and
age groups indirectly contributes to a more equal road transport system. And consumer tests help
customers choosing safer products. Fewer injuries also mean lower injury and damage costs and thus
lower premiums in our insurances. In this way, the road safety research is part of the offer and
constitutes a positive impact for our customers.

Folksam has extensive national and international collaborations with industry, authorities,
universities, and research institutes. The research results are continuously published in journals and
presented at conferences globally.
