General Information
The Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre (Liikennevakuutuskeskus, LVK) ultimately safeguards the rights of traffic accident victims and handles the consequences of neglected motor insurance payments. The centre has extensive national and international duties, and its members include all insurance companies that issue motor insurance policies in Finland. Vehicle technical related issues are handled by centre’s technical unit.
Main Activities of technical unit:
• Development of damage inspection processes and compensation activities
• Provide and share information on new vehicle technology, domestic and international repair procedures and processes
• Give statements on the preparation of laws and regulations related to vehicle technical issues
• Produce and acquire the inspection services needed by the Finnish motor insurance center
• Increase awareness of the current situation and trends of cross border vehicle crime
Strategic Direction:
• Ensure the up-to-date consistency of recommendations, agreements and standards between the insurance and automotive sectors
• Coordination of share information systems and securing reasonable repair costs in traffic accidents by improving the functionality of damage calculation systems and repair methods
Other tasks of the Finnish Motor Insurers' Centre:
• Handles traffic accidents caused by uninsured and unknown vehicles, those exempted from motor liability insurance, foreign vehicles, vehicles holding temporary and frontier motor liability insurance policies as well as the reindeer damage caused by vehicles.
• Issues guidelines to promote insurance activities and standardize compensation activities
• Grants frontier and temporary motor liability insurance policies and acts as the national Green Card system office and guarantee fund
• Acts as the Finnish data centre and compensation body as well as insolvency body stipulated by the EU Motor Insurance Directive
• Takes care of other tasks that promote the implementation and development of motor liability insurance legislation
• Collects negligence penalties for uninsured vehicles
• Compiles shared motor insurance damage statistics and conducts risk studies
